Introducing RESILIENCE 2025: A Groundbreaking Conference on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)
The world is becoming increasingly aware of environmental health challenges, but one condition remains largely misunderstood and overlooked—Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). Affecting over one million Canadians and millions more globally, MCS is a disabling medical condition that can severely impact daily life. Yet, despite its prevalence, many individuals struggle to access appropriate healthcare, support, and policy recognition.
That’s why the Environmental Health Association of Canada and the Environmental Health Association of Québec are proud to present RESILIENCE 2025: The First Annual International Conference on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. Taking place virtually on May 1 & 2, 2025, this pioneering event will bring together leading scientists, advocates, medical professionals, policymakers, and individuals with MCS to advance awareness, research, and action.
Why RESILIENCE?
The theme of the conference, RESILIENCE, reflects the strength of individuals living with MCS and the urgent need for systemic change. It represents the ongoing fight for scientific recognition, policy reform, and inclusivity in public spaces, workplaces, and healthcare systems.
Despite the overwhelming evidence supporting the biological mechanisms of MCS, skepticism and misinformation persist, limiting access to care and necessary accommodations. This conference aims to bridge the gap between research, policy, and lived experiences to create a future where MCS is recognized and addressed with urgency.
What to Expect at RESILIENCE 2025
This two-day virtual event is designed to educate, empower, and inspire action.
📌 Day 1: Scientific Foundations of MCS
The first day will focus on the biological basis of MCS, presenting cutting-edge research from leading scientists, toxicologists, and medical professionals. Topics include:
✔ The physiological and genetic mechanisms behind chemical sensitivity
✔ How exposure to pollutants and toxicants triggers MCS
✔ New insights into diagnosis and treatment
✔ The importance of reducing toxic exposures for public health
This session will debunk misinformation, validate scientific evidence, and offer new directions for research and medical approaches.
📌 Day 2: Policy, Inclusion & Global Perspectives
Day two will shift the focus to advocacy, policy change, and global collaboration. Featuring disability lawyers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and international organizations, this session will cover:
✔ The need for scent-free policies in healthcare, workplaces, and public spaces
✔ Legal perspectives on disability rights – Experts in disability law will address human rights, legal protections and policy reforms
✔ Scientific bias and the lack of MCS research funding
✔ International efforts to recognize and support individuals with MCS
The day will end with a panel discussion on next steps for systemic change, bringing together diverse voices to share strategies for improving access, equity, and quality of life for people with MCS.
