Did you know that over one million Canadians have a diagnosis of Environmental Sensitivities (also known as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity)? This is very significant since most doctors have not studied about this in medical school so we expect that the numbers are actually much higher.
Environmental Sensitivities is a painful, chronic condition that can develop in people of all ages, often following either a single massive exposure or repeated low level exposures to chemicals commonly released into the environment.
Symptoms, that affect multiple organ systems, may be triggered by a wide range of factors such as scented, personal and cleaning products, laundry detergents, paints, petrochemicals, cigarette smoke, pesticides, pets, plants, fuels, electromagnetic radiation, moulds and foods. Unless accommodation is provided, this restricts the sufferer from shopping, visiting public places and in a nutshell; having a life!
Why have you not heard about this condition?
Often people who fall ill with Environmental Sensitivities are too sick to fight for their Rights or even to be heard. They frequently fall through the cracks without social support or appropriate medical care. They are often ridiculed, treated unfairly and without compassion, and end up in abject poverty, excluded from society.
This medical condition is recognized as a disability by the Canadian Human Rights Condition.
Many illnesses have a day or a month for awareness and education.
ASEQ-EHAQ is requesting the Minister of Health, Québec, to declare May as the month of awareness and education on Environmental Sensitivities in Québec and to declare May 12 as Environmental Sensitivities Day in Québec.
Please support our request and sign the petition. Also, please forward this information widely.
